You must: *be at least 18 years of age *be a good listener *be able to successfully complete the volunteer training *be able to work 39 four-hour shifts over a one-year period of time (about one shift a week). On Saturday, November 17th, families with children can come to Lafayette Transitional Housing Center at the new Howarth Center, 615 North 18th Street, to help prepare and serve a meal to the homeless families with children, and single adults who reside at LTHC. These residents are currently participating in the programs of LTHC while working to become self-sufficient. Beginning at 10am, children can make placemats while the adults can help prepare the dining room and serve lunch at 11:30. Donations of holiday food items will be graciously accepted.

Book Cycle, a program that enhances early childhood literacy is looking for volunteers. Individuals are needed to be liaisons between the Book Cycle coordinator and the contact people at the sites. These volunteers would check monthly to remind the sites about data collection, to see if they need supplies, and to pick up and deliver books and supplies. Primarily it would be phone or e-mail contact but volunteer help with weekly book distribution at the sites would certainly be welcomed. A couple of times a year volunteers are needed to help sort new books and distribute them. Book Cycle also needs volunteers who can, on an as needed basis, help with book purchases. Anyone with computer skills would be appreciated for assistance with data collection and for help with designing and printing brochures and flyers.

Legal Aid is in need of a volunteer office assistant to perform clerical duties. The volunteer would handle phone inquires, application intakes, communication with clients, and document creation. The volunteer would be needed 8-4 Mon.-Fri. and must be 17 or older.

If you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunities call the Greater Lafayette Volunteer Bureau at 742-8241, email vsc@glvb.org , or check out our new website www.glvb.org
