Men's Recruitment is Informal
Fraternities can extend invitations to join at anytime, 365 days a year. Some fraternities conduct summer recruitment events in addition to the traditional fall and spring recruitment periods. The "Welcome Back Boiler Bash" and Boiler Gold Rush informational sessions provide opportunities to learn about the Greek system without having to visit all 40+ chapters individually. There are major differences among the fraternities, so be sure to fully investigate the groups that interest you. Contact the Interfraternity Council if you want to be listed on the potential member database... email or call (765) 494-2717 after August 19, 2004.
Invitations to Join
When a fraternity extends an invitation to join, it is called a "bid." It is up to the student to decide whether or not to accept a bid. Students may receive bids from more than one organization, but can only accept one. Students have three options when considering a bid:
Accept the bid and begin affiliation with the organization immediately;
Accept the bid, but defer joining until the following semester (this option must be approved by the organization);
Decline the bid.
